Invite someone you don’t know that well to your house, apartment, dorm to get to know them better.  Maybe over a game of Apples to Apples or Dominoes.  Maybe for an olympics game party.  Maybe just for a cup of Java.  Just get out there and meet people!

5 Crazy Ways to Beat the Winter Blues Without Breaking the Bank February 9, 2010

Just because the weather is dull, doesn’t mean your life has to be. Here are unique inexpensive things to do even though it’s cold outside.

1. Get active. Since its cold, keep your body moving! Try a new sport or learn a new style of dance. Midwest Mountaineering has free indoor rock climbing and gyms like LA or Lifetime have trial memberships that offer classes such as cycling, salsa dancing, hip hop and yoga.

2. Take the Polar Bear Plunge. This cold dip into the icy waters will be sure to wake up your senses. Raise money for the Special Olympics by creating a team and finding sponsors to support your plunge. Find out more information below.

3. Challenge your friends to a photo scavenger hunt. These are lots of fun and very easy to prepare. First, create a list of fun and unique things to take pictures of. Each picture is given a designated amount of points and the team with the most points wins. However, the real prize is the crazy pictures and memories you’ll end up with. Since its cold outside, try a mall hunt. Here are some photo ideas for making the scavenger hunt list.

4. Have an indoor campout. If the low temperatures are getting to you, snuggle up by a warm fireplace. Bring back summer nostalgia by roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. If you don’t have a fireplace, stove burners work well too. Build a fort in the living room and share ghost stories with a friend by flashlight.

5. Make a music video. Find a friend and blast the iTunes. Choose a favorite song and choreograph your own crazy dance moves. Although you’ll probably never want to show anyone, the footage will keep you laughing for months.
